INTERNATIONAL DIRECTORIES

Country or Region Specific Directories

You can find directories specific to one country, one region, and/or one continent. For example, many European directories are on the Web. Here are a couple which offer much more than just company listings:

1. European Online International http://www.europeonline.com/internat/

In addition to a directory of businesses, also see the section called Europe Online BizNet. http://www.europeonline.com/biznet/index.htm

Get data here on economic conditions, banking, employment, and financial services throughout Europe.

2. Europages, the European Business Directory http://www.europages.com/

This site is much more than just a directory; it's an excellent starting point for any company interested in marketing to a European country.

Check out the Europages' Business Guide to Europe, the information on international trade fairs, business news, European Chambers of Commerce, Patent Offices, and the links to business, economic, and "practical information" sites. The company database includes 150,000 European supplies and is "designed for purchasing companies looking for new, competitive suppliers." You can search by activity sector, by company name, or do an open-text search.

From this site, you can also link to Yellow Pages in Europe at http://www.europages.com/yp-en.html.

These links go to yellow pages in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden, and Switzerland. You can select the language version you want to view.

And, take a look at "Europages preferred links" http://www.europages.com/other-sites-en.html

You can link to sites related to the promotion of international trade, economic data, European Union, and business travel information. Also link there to even more directories, including Asia Yellow Web, Caribbean Yellow Pages, CyberCity InfoLink: Canada's Business Directory, Korea Directory, and more.

International Directories

Other directories include companies all over the world but present the data in a variety of languages.

3. Pronet: Business Search Engine/International Business Directory http://pronett.com/

You can list your business or search this site by business category. Currently this directory has over 250,000 businesses registered from more than 170 countries.

ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA The Encyclopaedia Britannica's Internet Guide has become my first choice when I'm usind the Net to research a subject. Its big advantage over conventional search engines is that it's structured by some of the world's best and most experienced information retrieval professionals. It also evaluates its linked sources according to criteria like those that would be used for the Britannica, such as the credentials of a site's author or publisher, and its information tree organization -- while it may seem time-consuming at first -- actually saves time by eliminating irrelevancies. Its only shortcoming is that, partly due to its selectivity, it has only about 65,000 sites indexed at present. It will grow, I'm sure, but even as it is it's a major new resource. This following addresses the issue of "investment" particularly off shore., also from the Better business Bureau. (I thought this might be interesting for you because I often see this type of investment offer on the INTBIZ- Digest. And I am not suggesting that they are anything except above board. But fore-warned is fore-armed.
